Corporate Name: BAKTAD - Association of Baklava and Dessert Producers

Profile:
BAKTAD is the Association of Baklava and Dessert Producers in Turkey. The organization is not only focusing on domestic market, but also has helped Turkish producers entering European market.

Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of phyllo pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey. It is characteristic of the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire and those of Central and Southwest Asia. The history of baklava is not well documented. It has been claimed by many ethnic groups, but there is strong evidence that its current form was developed in the imperial kitchens of the Topkapi Palace. Today, Baklava is the top one dessert in Turkish people’s daily life. On average, it will consume nearly 3 kg baklava per person every year.
