TRT – TURKISH RADIO AND TELEVISION CORPORATION

Established on May 1st 1964, TRT was set up as an autonomous public organization, bringing a public and institutional identity to radio and television broadcasting in Turkey. For more than two decades, television in Turkey was synonymous with the TRT - Turkish Radio and Television Corporation. The Constitution awarded the sole broadcast license to TRT until 1990 when the government started goes give private licenses.

Today, TRT broadcasts around the globe. TRT’s predecessor, "Türkiye Radyolari" was one of 23 founding broadcasting organizations of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in 1950. The original company started radio test broadcasts in 1926, only 6 years after BBC’s regular radio transmissions.

In 2004, TRT signed the Asiavision contract of ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union), reinforcing its position as an effective international broadcaster.

TRT broadcasts to Turkey and to the entire world with 16 television channels and 2 international radio channels, over the internet at trt.net.tr and trt-world.com in 32 languages and dialects, through teletext and through its periodicals TeleViZYON, Radyovizyon, F1 Racing and TRT Cocuk.
